Newcastle United have not been ruled out of the race for Sebastian Haller just yet reports Soccer News, a Dutch football magazine.
But one thing which won’t happen is Haller leaving for the £7m quoted in the British media. At least, not if FC Utrecht manager Eric ten Hag has way. The striker, he said, would not be leaving on the cheap.
Speculation in the last week suggested that Haller was more likely to move to AS Monaco in Ligue Un, put off moving to St James Park by Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship.
However, the striker has not ruled out joining the Magpies if other options do not materialise. And it’s by no means certain he will leave Utrecht either, confirming to his manager that there were enough challenges facing the club for him to remain in the Eredivisie.
That and a burning desire to play in the Premier League or Bundesliga. No clubs from the former have yet shown an interest in striker, leaving Newcastle in a strong position if he wants to come to England.
