Newcastle United want left-back who has 16 international caps

Championship outfit Newcastle United are currently considering a swoop for Palermo defender Achraf Lazaar, according to reports from Tutto Mercato

Newcastle United recently allowed promising young defender Kevin Mbabu to leave on loan to BSC Young Boys and the departure of the 21-year-old means that the Magpies are a bit short on numbers in the left-back position at the moment.

Therefore, it is widely believed that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez will be looking to recruit the services of a new defender this summer and now according to reports emerging out of Italy, the Magpies are said to be considering a move for Palermo defender Achraf Lazaar.

Lazaar is widely tipped to leave Palermo this summer after entering the final year of his contract at the club and a move to the Premier League has been seen as a possibility for the Moroccan international, with the likes of West Ham United and Crystal Palace interested.

Now Tutto Mercato have gone on to reveal that even Newcastle have joined in the race to sign Lazaar and that the Magpies will be ramping up their pursuit to recruit the 24-year-old this summer.
