Report: Newcastle United agree a deal for 30-year-old

Newcastle United have tied Rob Elliot to a brand new contract, according to reports from the Shields Gazette.

Following the long term injury suffered by Tim Krul last season, Rob Elliot stepped in admirably and put in a host of fine performances for Newcastle United.

Cruelly, even Elliot suffered a season ending anterior cruciate ligament playing for the Republic of Ireland in March but as a testament to his contribution throughout the course of the campaign, the 30-year-old was awarded the club’s Player of the Year award.

Elliot is currently still recovering from his long term injury and despite the arrival of Matz Sels this summer, the Irishman looks to be in the plans of manager Rafael Benitez.

Now according to reports from the Shields Gazette, Elliot is set to be rewarded with a brand new contract by Newcastle. It has been claimed that Elliot has agreed a long term deal with the Magpies and an official announcement is set to be made next week.
