Newcastle enquire about 24-year-old attacker who has 42 international caps

Newcastle United are considering a surprise swoop for Chelsea winger Christian Atsu, according to reports from the Shields Gazette.

Atsu joined Chelsea from Porto for a fee of around £3.5 million during the summer of 2013 and it has to be said that the transfer has not quite proven to be successful for either the player or the Blues.

Since his arrival to Stamford Bridge, Atsu has spent time on loan at no less than four different clubs and he has not yet made a single first team appearance for Chelsea so far.

None of his loan spells have been particularly successful and it is now widely believed that the Blues are ready to dispense with the services of Atsu on a permanent basis this summer.

Despite his struggles, a number of clubs remain interested in signing Atsu and now according to reports from the Shields Gazette, claims are being made that Newcastle United are considering a shock move for the Ghanaian international.

Newcastle are currently in the market to sign a new attacking player and the Magpies are believed to have launched an enquiry regarding the availability of Atsu recently.
