5 key battles between Newcastle and QPR tonight

rafa thumbs up pic (1)Rafa v Hasselbaink

There isn’t much love lost between Newcastle fans and former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. The striker seemed to have a knack of dumping us out of cup competitions, often striking late in the game after we’d more than held our own. Since retiring in 2008 he’s forged a respectable managerial career which is continuing at QPR.

He likes his teams to play with freedom and creativity, which may test Rafa’s defensive nous given the quick turnaround between games. This is why squad selection will be key and presents an interesting dilemma for a man who famously likes to rotate his squad: stick with the same back four who have proven pretty solid the past few games, or rotate to bring some fresher legs into the starting line-up?

  1. Shearer was criticised and for criticising Zaha’s goal record this week and his own goal scoring record when he was young was highlighted showing he only scored about once every 5 games before he was 23 (he was played a lot on the wing though). My point is that we need to be patient with the mad Serb as he offers a lot besides goals and hopefully the goals will come.

  3. Ice: I remember when I was 21 and having 8 or so pints of exhibition and becoming very well acquainted with looking at the inside of the toilet bowl. As I was saying, people forget how much pressure and scrutiny is on these young kids. They may look like men but they are still not grown up.

  10. Ice my Scrumpy days are long gone, not able to get mortal while in charge of Lew. Odd glass of vino is about it now, Liver much happier though 😀

What is it with Villa, can’t seem to close a game down 1.1 now

  11. I see Sissoko got his wish to play in the Champions League – for 9 minutes! I think he will do OK for Spurs though as they need another direct runner and he showed some good moments under Rafa and for France. It is difficult to judge a player who had to suffer the 3 stooges and if he kept his gob shut there might even be a few of us wishing him good luck and saying his career was derailed at NUFC. Let’s see how he does for Spurs, some of their players are obviously knackered from being overplayed last year so he should get some gametime soon. Still no end product though, which even the best coach in the world would find hard to fix.

  12. Villa: I am in Chicago and there are 2 main bars showing football. Villa fans go to one and NUFC fans go to another. There is an arrangement that when we play each other the other set of fans go to the other team’s bar. Went last season and they were a very nice set of people except for them singing “You’re going down with the Villa” for the whole 90 minutes 🙂 Plus, I can’t tell if the Villa fans are ever happy as that accent of yours always comes across as a bit down in the dumps. Even Ozzy Osbourne, who was funny as fck before his brain went, and still sounded like Sharon had put his puppy in the clothes dryer.

  13. Crikey Villa fan I must admit I feel bad for you. Your team is shocking. Brentford had more shots off and in target – they were the away team – and they were Brentford! Your boys need to pull their finger out and concentrate for the full 90. I still think there is enough quality to finish in the playoff places, but your lads need to have that hunger to succeed in this league, otherwise they will get out fought.

Yeah, except it’s not in the alcohol section. It’s in the household cleaning isle in between Asda’s own bleach and cilit bang.
