5 key battles between Newcastle and Wolves

Dwight Gayle

Gayle v Stearman

Injury robs Newcastle of a reunion with Mike Williamson, who hasn’t actually featured for his new club since signing permanently in January due to injury. With Williamson now not due to play until early next year, Richard Stearman has been brought in on loan for his second spell at his home town club.

Stearman has plenty of height over Gayle, but if Newcastle can continue to provide the kind of quality into the box they did against QPR then the striker has the pace to beat his man on the ground. Balls in behind the back four will be crucial – hopefully we don’t go back to sending high balls forward.

  1. Wehey, Mourinho is on his way to early retirement. No-one else will touch him once he fails at Man Utd.
Believe me he has bitten oof more than he can chew with Pep. Pep is an absolute lunatic, his sides play with brilliance and intensity… Mourinho is still putting right Van Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal’s **** signings…. a club in free fall … Man United, their era is finished…

  2. Well Scum have reverted back to being cack now Fat Sam’s gone and Mourinho’s dream job is rapidly becoming a nightmare. Good win for Palace against a very poor Stoke outfit.

  3. Kimtoon. I watched that **** Sunderland game and it really looked like Moyes had set them up to settle for a 0-0.

  4. Sunderland and Stoke in a race to see who can be the worst in the Prem this season. It should go right to the end. I pick Sunderland to finish the season on 15 points.

  5. An average of 2 points per match over the entire season would do me. That would be 92 points, surely enough to win the Champs. The real threat is probably Norwich in the long run.

  6. That would certainly help Sharpy. This next week is quite important. A win in the cup and the league and we’ll feel far better.

  7. ManU have real problems. Rooney is near finished, as are several of the other older players. Zlatan is still a force but for how long? The new lad Rashford looks genuinely good though. They need to remake their midfield. They never really replaced Scholes. Pogba is good but nothing like the best player in the world based on his price tag.

  8. Much depends on how long Jose can keep the dressing room content, if things get testy between him and the players then it could go very wrong very quickly.

Good to see Pardew proving his critics wrong again. It’s comedy gold reading the barrage of abuse he getswhen he’s on a losing streak and the self serving gratification remarks about how they knew he was rubbish along, only for him to stick it right up you all.

the only comedy here mate is your fascination with Alan, grown man with crush on a bloke nearing his pension LOL ycmiu

  10. werent QPR one of the favourites? bottom of the table lol

Like I said last week, 1 win and a draw away from 15th position. we’ll see on Tuesday how we recover after an embarrassing defeat

Just saw some highlights, Wolves could of had 3 or 4. we looked shocking

He better bloody win next week otherwise it’s custard pie in the face for Troy.

hes got a decent squad now mate, he should be doing ok. good luck to the bloke. Troy will say he’s fishing but he only comments when Palace win… hence why he doesnt comment much 😛

  12. Cabaye has missed the last 2 games for Crystal Palace through injury.
    They won both of them.
The sooner he is back in the team the better.

  13. The only time I cared whether Pardew won or lost was when he was toon manager – now – couldn’t give a ***** one way or the other.

Jose – I can’t stand!!. He’s an arrogant *****. When you look at how much money he’s been allowed to spend wherever he’s been, he should have been far more successful IMO.

  14. Sharpy – Exactly. Then again, people still mention Hughton (in relation to Pards) and he was our manager half a decade ago, only four months of which were in the Prem.

Manure 3 on the bounce is hilarious, as is West Ham getting battered by everyone they play. Please please let them get relegated. Would love to see their taxpayer stadium only playing to a crowd of 15k.

Still as has been said – we need get our own house in order. the Winning streak was nice and topped with a demolition job for the first time in years, but we can’t let that hubris distract us. Norwich will not lose focus and we need to keep pace with them to the finish.

  15. Bad day at the office – not for the first time. After winning the first 11 KKs team lost at home to Grimsby. 9/10 – 6 straight wins lost, at Blackpool. We’ll recover but dear me there were some poor performances v Wolves. I find Gayle totally disappointing, poor touch, easily knocked around. Mitro just can’t take his chances. We just don’t have a natural goalscorer. Well, we do but he’s in Barnsley.
Diame? Like Sissoko he can’t play as a no 10. He’s a box to boxer if anything.
Perez and Mbemba, two of our better players had nightmares and their LB bottled Ritchie and Anita completely. Too many changes for once Rafa?

  16. Here’s hoping we get back on track. If people are going to boo a single poor game in a run of wins it’s going to be a long, hard season for the lads.

  17. No, we’re going to give Norwich a good fonging Munich mate. They can finish second if they like. 😀

  18. I have it on good authority that Mourinho doesn’t like you either Sharpy mate. I think he’s been reading your comments……

  19. Crystal Palace went on a run of 24 games with 2 wins. Now they win a couple and The Troysta is saying Pards is wonderful again. It is the same pattern as always – win a couple, lose a lot, do just about enough to keep your job and get Troy horny for you again. He will be playing Benteke in goal soon, and falling out with the tea lady. It is the same pattern.

  20. Munich Mag:
My money is on Norwich winning the league…

I thought that before the season kicked off. Huddersfield have surprised everyone but I think they’ll have a bad month and be overtaken by Norwich eventually. It’s sad but I think we could be in for top 6 and a nail biting, squeaky *** game at Wembley. I think we’ve just got too many new players and a bit too much rotation at the moment. Huddersfield fan told me they play the same back six and keeper every game and rotate the three im attacking midfield. That’s the way to do it. Gayle, Mitrovic, Diame, Perez are all players who look great in one game and then struggle in others, I think we might yet need someone in January who can really perform consistently.

  21. DJG: the US election is in November so if Trump gets in we may not see January. I never thought it was possible that a particularly vibrant shade of orange orangutan would be elected. I also never thought Brexit would happen either and my mother would have voted for it.

  22. I’m sure someone else has posted this already…

Newcastle have not beaten Wolves in five domestic cup meetings since the FA Cup semi-final replay in 1951, when the Magpies went on to win at Wembley.

But what the f! Sort it out and put it right tonight lads.

  23. Yeah, in the early days of our relegation scrap I thought Norwich would survive for similar reasons. They’re squad is ok but they have a really good mentality, and I do really rate their manager. One of the best brit’s going, not that it says much. A lack of quality let them down in the prem but that’s not an issue in this league. I’ll be happy to finish second and just not have to play off against anyone, especially if we’re huge favourites…

  24. Amen to that Newkie. I don’t think I could handle play offs again ever!
I still have confidence though that the Wolves debacle was a one off and we’ll get there in the end.

  25. Georgio – yeah, I’d like to think the Wolves loss (on the back of us running riot) will be the final game to take away any of the pre-season arrogance we probably had about us going into the season.

I can handle a loss, but our players looked in total disbelief that we were 1-0 down, even if it was unfortunate, like they couldn’t believe we were losing. We need to get rid of that mentality and go out and earn every one of our victories, that’s how Norwich and and the chasing pack will approach all their games and we’re no different.

      (Quote)

  26. I honestly think the players thought because Wolves got spanked in the previous game they’d roll over. But their team had 5 changes to it and they would want to put right that previous loss and our lot should of been more aware of that. If Rafa is gonna chop and change then he and we have to accept that we’ll get inconsistent performances as I’m not sure all the new players have had enough time to take on board all his methods yet. I also think certain players need a run of games to perform to their optimum level. Anyway hoping the lads will make amends for Saturday tonight, fancy a good cup run.
