Newcastle United’s new signing explains why he is disappointed after debut

Newcastle United’s summer recruit Daryl Murphy has expressed his disappointment after failing to score on his debut for the club.

Daryl Murphy was surprisingly signed by Newcastle United from Ipswich Town this summer and following a long wait, the 33-year-old was finally handed his debut for the club during the EFL third round encounter against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday.

Newcastle claimed a comfortable 2-0 victory on the night and it has to be said that Murphy put in a very good performance in leading the line for the Magpies.

Following the game, the striker explained that he was happy to have made his debut for Newcastle in front of the home fans but also expressed his disappointment at failing to find the back of the net during the encounter.

Murphy told Newcastle’s official website, “It was nice to get the start, and to start at home. It was good to get the full 90 minutes, get the win and keep a clean sheet – the only thing I’m disappointed with is that I didn’t score, but that’ll come.

“It was a good crowd here tonight, and I’ve been itching to go since I signed, to be honest. But I knew I had to be patient and I knew I’d get a chance at some stage, so I just had to be ready.”

Newcastle now prepare to square off against Aston Villa in the Championship this weekend and Murphy will surely be hopeful of featuring during the encounter.
