According to reports from the Daily Telegraph, former Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren could be set for a stunning return to the iPro Stadium.
There was a lot of optimism surrounding Derby County following the appointment of Nigel Pearson as manager this summer but things have not quite gone according to plan for the 53-year-old at the iPro Stadium.
Pearson has been able to guide Derby to only a solitary victory in the Championship so far and the ex-Leicester City boss was ‘suspended’ just hours before the Rams’ league encounter against Cardiff City on Tuesday night.
It is widely believed that Pearson is now set to be sacked by Derby and a number of names have already started being linked with a move to the iPro Stadium over the past 12 hours or so.
Now according to reports from the Daily Telegraph, it has been claimed that former Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren ‘is understood to have been discussed’ as a potential replacement for Pearson.
McClaren has had two spells at Derby previously, first as an assistant manager back in 1995 and then as manager two seasons ago, and it will be interesting to see if the 55-year-old will be handed a chance to return to his former club following an acrimonious exit last time out.
