Newcastle United attacker Ayoze Perez has gone on to reveal that a host of top clubs were interested in securing his services this summer.
Newcastle United have endured a terrible few seasons in recent times and as a testament to this fact, the Magpies currently find themselves plying their trade in the second tier of English football.
Despite the troubles though, there has been a few positives for Newcastle to look back upon and the emergence of young striker Ayoze Perez has certainly been one of them.
Perez arrived at Newcastle from Tenerife during the summer of 2014 as a virtually unknown quantity and the 23-year-old has since managed to establish himself as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe.
Following Newcastle’s relegation into the Championship, it was widely expected that Perez could potentially be leaving St. James’ Park this summer, with Tottenham and Barcelona reportedly plotting moves, but the Spaniard decided to remain loyal to the Magpies.
Now Perez has gone on to confirm that a host of top clubs were indeed interest in his services but he decided to stay put in order to guide Newcastle back into the Premier League.
Perez was quoted saying by the Chronicle, “The fans have always been very close and have always thanked me for staying – despite the interest that there has been from big clubs to sign me. I have a debt with the fans, I want to return to the Premier League with Newcastle. We must be professional.”
