Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles has hailed teammate Dwight Gayle for his stunning hat trick against Norwich City.
Newcastle United claimed a wonderful 4-3 victory over Norwich City in midweek and the undoubted star of the show for the Magpies on the night was star striker Dwight Gayle.
Gayle scored a stunning hat trick during the encounter and he was the one who grabbed the winner for Newcastle by scoring in the 96th minute to send the St. James’ Park faithful into raptures.
That being said though, Gayle did miss a couple of gilt-edged chances throughout the game and it seemed like the 25-year-old would endure a disappointing night after Norwich went 3-1 up on the 69th minute.
However, Gayle kept persisting to reap the wonderful rewards at the end and now skipper Jamaal Lascelles has gone on to reveal that encouragement from the entire Newcastle team during half time was the reason behind the ex-Crystal Palace striker’s renaissance in the second period.
Lascelles was quoted saying by the Chronicle, “Credit to him, he kept going. He could easily have spat his dummy out after the couple of chances he missed but he stuck with it and we filled him with confidence at half-time saying to him, ‘You’re going to win us the game.’
“He got his head down and he did it for us. I’m really pleased for him but overall it was a great performance from the boys.”
