As quoted by the Sunderland Echo, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has explained that Jonjo Shelvey is the player who gets the entire team playing better.
Newcastle United moved into one of the automatic promotion places in the Championship following their fine 3-1 victory over Brentford at St. James’ Park on Saturday and the man of the match during the clash was arguably midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Shelvey was simply sensational throughout the match and his presence at the middle of the park meant that the Magpies were able to completely dominate the game.
In addition to the wonderful performance against Brentford, Shelvey has put in a number of eye catching displays for Newcastle this season and this fact has unsurprisingly left manager Rafael Benitez extremely pleased.
Now Benitez has gone on to lavish Shelvey with praise following his exploits during the weekend and has stated that the ex-Liverpool man is a player who gets the best out of the rest of the Newcastle side.
The Spaniard was quoted saying by the Sunderland Echo, “We analyse the characteristics of our players, and we have a player who can deliver the final pass in him.
“We have others like (Isaac) Hayden who can play in that position, but Jonjo is a player who is technically good and he plays well the team plays better.”
