Speaking to the Chronicle, Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he always knew that star striker Dwight Gayle was capable of scoring goals on a consistent basis.
Newcastle United displayed a lot of faith by splashing £10 million to secure the services of Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace during the summer and it has to be said that the striker has more than managed to repay the sizeable transfer fee already.
Gayle has scored a sensational 11 goals in as many appearances so far in the Championship and his contribution has proven to be crucial in helping the Magpies move into the top of the table recently.
Given Gayle’s less than prolific goalscoring record for the likes of Peterborough United and Crystal Palace, many have been left a bit surprised by the 25-year-old’s stunning exploits for Newcastle this season but manager Rafael Benitez has gone on to reveal that he always knew that his star striker was capable of scoring goals on a consistent basis.
Benitez told the Chronicle, “We knew that he could score goals. We were impressed in the beginning because he scored goals in the training sessions.
“He is working hard and it’s not easy to see both things at the same time, goals and work. He is enjoying himself and doing really well.”
