Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Newcastle United attacker Dwight Gayle has stated his ambition of scoring 20 goals during the current campaign.
Newcastle United splashed a sizeable £10 million to secure the services of Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace during the summer and he has proven to be a very good signing for the Magpies so far.
Gayle has scored an impressive 11 goals in as many appearances in the Championship and his brace in the victory over Barnsley on Tuesday night means that Newcastle have moved into the summit of the table for the first time this season.
It is clear to see that Gayle is crucial to Newcastle’s automatic promotion chances during the current campaign and the 25-year-old has now stated his ambition which is certain to please the fans.
Gayle has revealed that he is planning to score 20 goals this season and is very confident of reaching the milestone with the help of midfield maestro Jonjo Shelvey.
The striker told the Daily Mirror, “Twenty is where you start as a striker and I just want to be winning games for the team. The main thing for me is not even goals I just want to get promoted back up to the Premier League with the club.
“But yes, 20 is a good marker personally. We need to score goals to get promoted and I’m happy to help out but we’ve got other great players in there as well. Jonjo will help me.
“He has been fantastic every week. He’s always looking for me and he’s got a fantastic range of passes. At the beginning of the season he hadn’t got me an assist and I was constantly getting into his head before the game to say, ‘Get me an assist – help me out’. The last few weeks he’s picked me out a number of times.”
