According to reports from the Daily Mail, Championship side Newcastle United are involved in a head-to-head battle to secure the services of Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic.
Newcastle United managed to strengthen their grip at the top of the Championship table with a 3-0 victory over Ipswich Town at St. James’ Park during the weekend and despite such wonderful form, manager Rafael Benitez is still working relentlessly to improve his squad.
It has been claimed that Benitez has already shortlisted a host of names to target during the upcoming January transfer window and now according to reports from the Daily Mail, revelations can be made that the Magpies are currently considering a swoop for Celtic centre back Jozo Simunovic.
Simunovic endured an injury hit debut campaign at Celtic last season and it was widely expected that the 22-year-old would be leaving Parkhead this summer, with Torino having a £4 million bid accepted during the summer deadline day.
However, the move collapsed at the last minute and Simunovic has featured five times for the Hoops so far this season.
Nonetheless, it is still expected that Simunovic will leave during the January transfer window and the Daily Mail have claimed that Newcastle as well as Crystal Palace are monitoring the Croatian youngster at the moment.
