Speaking to the club’s official website, Newcastle United defender Grant Hanley has hailed the club faithful for their fantastic support against Preston North End.
It is no secret that the people in Newcastle simply love their football and they proved this fact once again by turning out in large numbers at St. James’ Park during the Magpies’ League Cup encounter against Preston North End on Tuesday night.
A stunning 49,042 people attended the encounter with Preston and Newcastle most certainly gave the huge turnout something to cheer about by claiming a sensational 6-0 victory on the night.
The attendance was the biggest for a League Cup clash at St. James’ Park in nearly 40 years and many were astonished at the wonderful passion of the Newcastle fans for their beloved team for a midweek cup game.
Defender Grant Hanley was most certainly very appreciative for the support from the club faithful and following the game, the 24-year-old has stated that playing in front of such a huge crowd is a ‘dream’ for him.
Hanley told the Newcastle’s official website, “The support here is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. I’ve never experienced it before – it’s unbelievable.
“Since I’ve been here, the fans have been first class, and it’s a credit to them that they turn out in their numbers every week, home or away. There were however many thousand here again tonight – what a place to play football. It’s a dream, really.”
