Speaking to the Chronicle, Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has stated that he ‘loves’ teammate Dwight Gayle.
Aleksandar Mitrovic has not enjoyed the best of spells in front of goal so far this season but the striker managed to finally show his true worth by grabbing a wonderful brace in Newcastle’s fine 6-0 victory over Preston North End in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
Manager Rafael Benitez was most certainly delighted with Mitrovic’s contribution in midweek but despite the exploits, it is widely expected that the young Serbian attacker will drop down to the bench for the upcoming Championship fixture against Preston once again this weekend.
Ahead of the clash Mitrovic has been speaking about his chances of earning starts on a regular basis and has admitted that things have not been easy for him due to the lack of minutes on the pitch.
Nevertheless, Mitrovic has now said that he does not have any qualms about his situation due to the fact that first choice Dwight Gayle is performing so well at the moment and even added that he ‘loves’ the 25-year-old despite the fierce competition for places.
He was quoted saying by the Chronicle, “It’s not been easy for me as a striker because you have Dwight Gayle who is scoring every game. I say I love Dwight, I like him a lot as a person and as a player. I will keep going and that’s all I keep saying.
“I am working hard. If you are a good player you have to push yourself until you get your chance. I am doing that. I hope that when I get my next chance I will score and do well again.”
