What Are Dwight Gayle’s Personal Aims This Season?

As reported by the Chronicle, Dwight Gayle is aiming to equal his current best return for goals in a single season.

Gayle, the top scorer in the Championship, said: “Combined, my best in a season was 20, seven at Dagenham and 13 at Peterborough.

“I will be happy if I beat that really.”

“If you fall short you will be upset, the main thing is to go into each game hoping to score and help the team.”
One thing that will help Gayle reach his target is the service that he gets from those behind him, when asked about Mo Diame, Gayle said: “Mo was fantastic. It was a pleasure to play in front of him and the ball he put in was a great one.

“Luckily it went in and from then we pushed on.”

The Newcastle number nine spoke about the support that he and his team mates have had this season, adding: “Coming out here to play in front of 52,000 is lovely and the boys thrive on it.

“Most of my goals have come here.

“It’s a fantastic feeling to be getting goals in front of them.

“I’ve got a couple of braces this year.

“In the back of your mind you are thinking is it going to be one of those days when you don’t get a hat-trick.

“At the end of the career you will be looking back at the match balls and be buzzing about them.

“To get one on Saturday was a fantastic feeling.”
