Rafa Was Asked if He Would Sign Atsu Permanently – How Did He Respond?

As reported by the Chronicle, Christian Atsu is fast becoming a very popular player on Tyneside and yesterday, the Ghanaian ace scored the second goal in Newcastle’s 2-0 win over Wigan, the goal that killed the game and saw Newcastle’s three points secure.

After the game when manager, Rafa Benitez was asked about Atsu, he said: “We needed fresh legs and a little bit of pace.

“He can do that and did it well.

“That was the ideal situation for us, we needed the second goal to finish the game.”

He was then asked if he thought that the club would sign Atsu permanently in the January transfer window. On that, he said: “At the moment he is signed up for the next game with Burton so I am pleased with that.

“We don’t talk about the market now.”

However, with Rolando Aarons out for a long time, it is looking very likely that Newcastle will target a winger in January.
