Is The Title A Two Horse Race? One Opposition Manager Certainly Thinks So

As reported by the Chronicle, Burton Albion manager, Nigel Clough, feels that the race for the Championship title may be already only be between Newcastle United and Brighton.

Clough said: “I think they’ll go up – we think Newcastle and Brighton are the outstanding teams in this division,”

“We expect those two to go up and then everybody else to fight it out for the other spots.”

Clough complimented Newcastle further, adding: “We’ve got Newcastle out of the way at home when really you don’t expect to get anything from them,”

“But I think the nature of the performance will give us a boost in a strange sort of way.

“We deserved at least a point and it’s difficult for the players, who have put in so much effort.

“It’s difficult to take.

“We were close, just not close enough.

“It’s extremely difficult when you’re battling against the likes of Newcastle and Villa.

“The likes of Newcastle punish you for errors.

“You might get away with them against some other teams, but when you’ve got the likes of Dwight Gayle getting on the end of them, he ran into Kyle McFadzean, picks himself up, sprints 40 yards, lets it run through his legs and then puts it in.

“Brilliant goal.”
