Toon V Forest – Goals and Discussion as the action unfolds.

Follow this blog for the latest goals and reaction to this must win game as Newcastle United looks to reclaim the Championship top spot, as Brighton look on following the postponement of their home game against Cardiff due to fog.

Anita, Gouffran & Diame dropped.

Half time Newcastle United 1-1 Nottingham Forest.

Half time stats

3-1 Toon. Gayle’s 19th goal.

Full time Newcastle United 3-1 Nottingham Forest. Top of the table for New Year. Goal difference 5 better than Brighton, who are a single point behind with a game in hand.

Final game stats:

What is interesting is that despite having 6 out field players under 5’8”, Newcastle managed to win 61.5% of the aerial duels. The Toon also won 68% of their attempted tackles compared to Forest’s 47.6%. Newcastl completed 26.9% of their crosses compared to Forest’s 14.3% and interestingly Forest were awarded 16 fouls to Newcastle’s 12 – showing the Toon were not as bullied off the ball as the commentary suggested.

  1. Plenty time but we sound as **** as our last game v Wednesday. .

Get ur act together we’ve only lost 1 player ffs

  2. If you refresh the thread very now and then, i’ll try to post links to the goals. The Forest goal is on…

  3. Sounds like Colback has done absolutely nothing again and has failed to protect the back 4. Yet again, we are getting out muscled. Not enough physical presence in the team. Gayle, Ritchie, Colback, Yedlin, Atsu and Perez all under 5’8? I’m all for pace in the side, but we cant compete in the air and cant fight for the ball. We need a bit of both little and large. All of our offensive players are small.

  4. Perez and Colback need selling. Perez has just been bullied this season and Colback has lost the plot.

  5. Yet another home fixture we are making hard work of.

Thought the additional threat of Atsu & Yedlin might pay off, but then we have to play them in and there’s not much of that from the middle. I don’t like singling players out but I just think the last 2 games highlight Colback needing replacing for me.

  6. Well that’s mills gone so we need to press home a winner now, will be livid if we can’t beat 10
And Gayle scores get in lad

That’s a shame Kim. Works fine from my laptop. Not sure why that would be…

Sham I get it every time I try to view clips like that no matter what site or twitter account I’m on.

lol, god knows sham, I thought I updated a flash player recently though. 😕

  11. Sounded pretty boring, but a win is a win and it puts us back on top at New Year. Really, have achieved our goals – top at Christmas AND New Year. I don’t care that Brighton’s game was called off, we are still top and who is to say they will win their game in hand (a draw keeps us top because of GD).

  12. Kimtoon: NUFCTV is now free. I am sure they will have highlights up… eventually. Uncle Ed will probably beat them to it even though he is 3,000 miles away and doesn’t get paid by the club.

  13. Yep, 3 points is all that matters. Scrappy game and Mitro showed that he does more than just sit p front by heading the Forest corner away. Would sooner see Perez and Murphy go before Mitro.

Is there something in the Lansbury talk? Just so happens to be injured for the return trip just as the window is about to open. He has an Arsenal upbringing and is a far better player than Colback for example.

Rafa says he has no interest in him mate

  15. Gayles 1st was a excellent, very difficult angle. Hope his injury isn’t gonna keep him out of the Blackburn game though.

  17. I just signed up today to NUFCTV to listen to Radio Newcastle. Had the pay service years ago but then dropped it as Fox and now NBC had shown most of games. Dropping to the Championship means I only see about 1 in 3 now. That’s one big reason I want and expect immediate promotion.

  18. I see Troy came out of his Laundry hamper to moan about people moaning 🙂 He has nothing left to say now with ALL of his predictions going horribly wrong. Well done Troy, I always knew that taking the opposite view to you on everything was the way to go.

  19. Well I was at the match last night. Full stadium again with 52,245 there last night. Ritchie’s free kick was right in front of me. The goalie didn’t move. Amazing. I thought we played well for first 20 mins or so then it went a bit flat. I couldn’t see what the red card was for, can anyone enlighten me? Ref seemed to go to sideline then gave a second yellow. All other goals were at the wrong end for me so good to see them more clearly on this thread (cheers Andy) … Gayle’s first was a stunner. Overall pleased with the performance. I actually predicted 3-1 win before the match, lol wish I had put money on it. Onwards and upwards lads and lasses. Happy new year to all.

  20. Also just want to add that Colback and Perez were very poor last night. Ciaran Clacke was excellent again. Darlow very competent in goal. Ritchie was really good.

  21. Dubai, I couldn’t see either but heard after getting booked for challenge, 4th official saw him push ball into Gayles stomach and got 2nd booking for that

  22. Good to hear some feed back from people who were at the game. Listening to the radio yesterday, it sounded like a turgid affair, Lascelles and the toon defence in particular came in for a hammering.

That we are a one man team is ridiculous, we are a two man team, where would we be without the goals from Gayle ?

Hopefully that stops the negativity on here.

Dubai, pleased for you that you had a nice evening out mate, I love watching games at sjp under the floodlights, its even better when we win !

talk Gayle has a injury, dont know how bad?

Yep he was limping and injured when he got our third Ice./ I said last night that I hoped he’d be ok for Blackburn but I suspect he won’t be.

  24. Ice as Kim said he was limping and limping after he scored. Thought he would just run it off, but sensibly taken off with the game on Monday. Don’t think it was too bad, at least hope not. At least still able to get up and score

  25. mitro and murphy both available, well see if rafas flawed strategy of not giving them enough game time comes back to bit him in the ***.

Hopefully that stops the negativity on here.

negativity, surely not 🙂 we are Toon fans, we only do deluded 😉

  27. Simon:
He did take a bit of a beating throughout the match though

Mate, he is targeted every match I have been able to watch, no matter who the opposition are. Constant niggly fouls on him often going unchecked by the woeful refs in this division. And STILL he is English footballs top scorer

  28. I know what you mean Kim, but seemed more over the top than ever last night, all of defence and most of midfield onto him all game

  29. Simon, didn’t see the game just the highlights on SSN so I will take your word for it, but it doesn’t surprise me one bit tbh.

  30. It’s obvious that we are going through a dip in form, which was always going to happen at some point. Thankfully it didn’t matter in the second half as they had a second yellow (for something the 4th official spotted, quite unusual and lucky for us) the game swung in our favour although it still took some exemplary poaching from Gayle. That’s one team beaten who could have done the double over us. Another at Blackburn on Monday. (Both of those teams are strugglers interestingly). It’s another game that would be nice to win for that reason.
