As reported by The Northern Echo, Newcastle could face serious competition from a Premier League side for one of their main transfer targets.
The player in question, is Tom Cleverley of Everton. Cleverley had been strongly linked with a loan move to Newcastle, in a move that many thought would be a very big boost to Newcastle’s chances of promotion this season.
However, it now looks like Newcastle could face serious competition for Cleverley’s signature, from Premier League side Burnley.
Whether or not Everton will agree to loan an undoubtedly good player to a club in the same division as them remains to be seen.
The link though, will concern Newcastle fans, with many feeling that the side has lacked direction and creativity without the influence of Jonjo Shelvey.
Cleverley has the credentials to help both Burnley and Newcastle and with Rafa Benitez’s side in the division below Burnley, the supporters will have to hope that Cleverley sees potential here.
