As reported by the Chronicle, Matt Ritchie has spoken out about Jonjo Shelvey’s absence from the Newcastle side.
When asked if the recent results were down to the absence of Shelvey, Ritchie said: “Everyone knows the quality Jonjo brings to the team, his attributes are fantastic and any team would miss him, but I wouldn’t say the results are completely down to Jonjo missing because we lost games with him in the team.
“He’s a big player for us but we’ve got a good squad and good players in that position and collectively we need to make sure we improve on the last couple of results.”
Ritchie then expanded, talking about the season as a whole, adding: “We want to get promotion but we want to win the league really. I’ve had experience of it and the feeling of winning the league is a fantastic one and hopefully we can do that this season.”
