Rafa Discusses The Possibility Of Goalkeeper Going Out On Loan And Krul Returning

As reported by the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez has spoken about the possibility of allowing ‘keeper Rob Elliot to go out on loan for the remainder of the season.

When asked about Elliot, Benitez said: “Rob Elliot, I am happy with him. He has to keep playing with Under-23s to keep his fitness.”

Benitez also spoke about the chances of Tim Krul returning from is loan at Ajax, by adding: “He needs time away and football. We have three keepers here.”

With all of this considered, Matz Sels will probably not be leaving the club on loan either.

Benitez’s comments suggest that he wants three senior ‘keepers for the remainder of the season, so with Tim Krul not returning, Sels seemingly still has a big part to play at Newcastle.

Sels played well in his most recent outing, an FA Cup win against Birmingham and his CV to date suggests that he will turn things around at Newcastle and give Elliot and Darlow serious competition for the number one spot.
