  1. Not looking good then on the transfer front is it lads and lasses… if Rafa does walk, I wonder what the backlash from fans will be… would we even maybe see and empty seat in SJP?
Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.

I’m expecting to wake up tomorrow morning and find…. absolutely nothing … ?

It’s doing that for me too

    Bloody Palace winning

  5. Townsend on the pitch now so no more nonsense from the hacks saying it’s going to the wire. It’s so not and likely never was.

  6. As previously mentioned. I was not judging until the window closes. I also said I give up on the club if we sign nobody.

If , as is likely, nothing happens – then I’m done because the writing will be in the wall.

  7. Correct, Sham. Rafa has wanted Townsend all window and he hasn’t been backed. Why anybody is surprised as when Ashley got back involved it was always ending badly. It doesn’t look good for the summer btw.

But I’m more bothered about this season now. Everyone has improved their squad apart from us. The squad needed a boost as did the fans and we are up against it again.

He will never learn and I’m never going to be a committed supporter until he’s gone.

  8. lets see what Rafa says about it, pretty sure he won’t be shy if he’s not happy . He’ll not be too confident they’ll get his targets for summer though that’s for sure. Reading won tonight too so lets hope we win our games in hand and suffer no injuries or red cards.

Sham – totally feel the same mate. I gave the benefit of the doubt, but it annoyed me that despite the whole month and how badly we struggled when Jonjo was out – the only egg in the basket was Townsend.

If we were 15pts clear at the top of the league I could get not getting anyone in. But to shirk on a £2m loan fee is just a joke – even after that, the £13m is a small fee for a proven PL player.

Kim – he may let Charnley know, but in front of the camera I think he’ll play the media game.

  11. I’ll be very surprised if we manage to win both our next games. Can’t image Rafa will be full of the joys of spring, the players will no doubt feel a bit pissed that they’ve not been given a helping hand and the fans will be on edge. Add to that, QPR and Derby have been doing ok recently and now we are under real pressure by teams below us.

They learn nothing. Rafa, you should leave as they will make you look a ****** and you’ll be pulling what hair you have out in the summer working with these fucking idiots!

I’m going to London tomorrow and I’m going to get pissed and not even bother watching the game.

    I’m out!

  12. Wow, so many giving up on the club because we didn’t sign a highly over rated winger that cannot get a game for a team near the bottom of the PL table.
We haven’t made a huge profit from all our player sales last year. We are getting paid in installments so we are not cash rich. Its not like we have 30m sitting there ready to spend.
We have one of the strongest squads in the championship so I don’t really understand the melodramatic posts…. Andros Townsend = meh…

  13. The sky is not falling. We did our business in the summer and the January window was always likely to be quiet. We went for Townsend because he was unexpectedly available and I am not at all surprised to see Palace hang on to him. They are desperate to stay up and he could help them. Just look at their other transfers, they have really gone all in and I think the Fat toad will keep them up.

I this this leaves the Mackems and Hull as the most likely to be relegated. Then it is a toss up between Swansea and Boro. Swans have had a new manager bounce but their squad is pretty ****. I really cannot believe that the Champions could be relegated. That would almost be as strange as them winning it in the first place.

      (Quote)

  14. Whilst it is true that Reading are only 3 points behind they have played 2 games more and we have a much better team than them. Our first team is still the best in the Championship and a win tomorrow will calm some nerves.

What we have witnessed though is just how stupid these fees have become. Adding the Chinese money to the PL riches has made average players worth a fortune.

Our 2 main targets, McCarthy and Townsend, will still be there in the summer and I expect we will try again. They wont be cheap though because they each cost their existing clubs 13 million. The Fat Man always said he wants NUFC to be self sustaining. I do not see how anything has changed when Everton would not sell and Palace dicked around.

It is obvious that Fat Sam wanted money from Townsend to buy other players. But, guess what, he got that money anyway so didn’t need to sell Andros.

Lol some right drama queens on here…not watching the game?? Walking away if we don’t sign anyone. These are the same ppl that said we’d walk it. Nothing’s changed!! we’ll go top if we beat Qpr and will be 9pts ahead of reading should we win our game in hand..

Spot on mate… this happens every transfer window. A lot of fans get fixated on one player and see them as the panacea for all our ills. I have lost count of the players that have caused such stirs and then have signed for another team and been totally *****! Saying that, we have missed out on some good ones but so has every club that has tried to buy and sell players.

I can see the clubs stance with the money. I am the same in the way I do business. I won’t pay over the odds on something, no matter how emotionally invested I may be. So I am not going to sit here and say the club should just pay what ever is being asked. I certainly wouldn’t do that.

  17. I will clearly persist, but that’s it from now on. Don’t trust Ashley and want him out. If Rafa walks in the summer because Ashley ****** him over, and the club is not sold – then I’ll pass my time concentrating on something other than Toon.

This window is very disappointing no matter what angle you look at it from. Rafa has repeatedly made it clear he wants incomings and yet we got nothing whilst everybody around us strengthened..shambolic. if not Townsend, we should have had a viable alternative. Instead, nothing. Shocking.

      (Quote)

  18. Some people just don’t get a clue! We said we will walk it that’s when we thought Ashley will be backing Rafa like he promised. Now we are doomed because he cheated again, not strengthening the team when we lost 1st team players due to various reasons, while our rivals are.

Kim, I don’t think Rafa will talk about future. He will and he can only talk about winning the game at hand. That is a sign. When he is happy, he would say I have a long term plan for Newcastle, implying he will stay for long term. But when he is not happy, he will only talk about now, not future. I don’t think he will complain much about the transfer. What’s done is done. It won’t be changed. He won’t give out much negative vibes, because he doesn’t want to disturb/affect the players, especially now when our promotion all of sudden is not that straight forward.

  19. *If it is true- That they wanted their money back plus £2m for Townsend, then I’m pleased we weren’t held to ransom. They are cheeky trying to charge more when he’s been a bit part player. I think we just signed all our players in the summer and it’s a better policy. Good idea to wait and see what league we’re in as we should have enough with those coming back. It’s not 100% perfect but name a club that is.

  20. Reading getting close. We have two games in hand but I’d rather have the points. I was listening to the radio on Monday and Rafa took quite a bit of stick actually for that team he put out and the distance the fans travelled. Better win tonight!

      (Quote)

  21. a thing or two to consider in regards to Townsend…

To date, Palace have reportedly only paid us 2m for Townsend with the balance of 11m owing. Now if we were to secure him, wouldn’t we just write off the 11m debt owed and repay the 2m that has been paid off?
So worst case scenario, if we were going to get him for 13m, 2m is all would of had to pay. Seems straight forward to me.
So why was there a hiccup with the deal?
Did we go for a cheaper buy price with all the cash up front??
Did Palace hit us with a 2m fee with the balance of 13m to be paid over a number of years??
Something has gone down behind the scenes and I guess we will never truly know what that was.

Ashley has backed his managers and invested money, its just in certain cases the toon have invested the money in ***** players.
Now we’ll see what Rafa is made of, out of all the cups, only promotion to play for, absolutely perfectly set up. 40 million pounds worth of strikers available, two of them internationals.
We can’t always throw money at the problem and hope for the best.
The players and Rafa have a task in hand, they need to go about it. ASHLEYy has his house full signs at SJP until the end of the season, how will it all end ? Squad rotation has been used as a get out, now we have 20 games to rotate the squad back to the EPL. Massive gamble by Penfold, fingers crossed it works out.

not as funny as the thought of you standing in the huffy corner ignoring the football 😛 Ashley has told us there will be no mor money from him. wasnt that clear enough. he loaned us £30mil, we owe him, wasnt that clear enough he isnt going to fund us.. so where has he took the ****? he was always taking the ****? has just pissed a bit harder?

no he was probably told we will make money by selling and loaning from Ashley. money is tight, thats obvious. I thought ppl knew that, thats why some fans were happy with 10th spot for a cpl of seasons then start kicking off from there… he isnt all of a sudden, going to start giving money to Rafa if he asks for it…

    my thought to a tee

  41. The simple fact is that Ashley has no real desire to see NUFC be successful. The only money he has ever invested has been down to his own stupid incompetence and never for improving the club on the pitch. He’s not the owner a football club needs to improve and compete.

      (Quote)

  42. People ignore the facts sometimes. Yes, Rafa liked Townsend. What was never mentioned was the £13m buy out clause was in the event of relegation. God knows how much Palace were asking for. It was never as clear as £13m plus £2m loan fee.

Nowts changed – we’ll go up and Rafa knows the score with Ashley from well before he signed on.

  43. Sorry guys, was out watching the Liverplop game last night. Re the error that Kim was seeing, has it stopped now? I must admit I was getting something similar yesterday a couple of times.

What a drab window that was and what a deadline day we picked for our first live blog. I still think we’ve got enough about us to go up comfortably, lots of players on their way back from injury.

I’m unzipping my trousers and laying mine on the table.
Rafa must have been promised a big rebuilding kitty for him to stay on at the toon.
Ashley doesn’t have to provide his own money. There’s enough rewards to be had by competing in the EPL.
I don’t agree that Rafa would stay if Ashley was restricting transfers this window. It wouldn’t be unprofessional to walk away. He could walk away and not claim any compensation and walk staight into a top job et al. ?

  47. Troysta: Clarky is proving you right. 8th in a 12 team **** league with one more point than games played. Obviously, could have cut it at NUFC considering his other great managerial achievements. And, I mentioned Pards once but I think I got away with it…

      (Quote)

  48. Rafa’s a very clever man. He’s managed at clubs that are notoriously difficult with difficult owners. Napoli, Valencia, Madrid, Chelsea all poisoned chalices. He knows the score and that’s why it took two weeks to sort out his contract. Ashley has openly said that Rafa is the best manager he could hope to get.
The list of transfer targets and progress, prices etc all came from the media. Rafa said “he liked Townsend” when he was pushed on it. But he didn’t say “I’d have liked Townsend”.
Never thought we’d sign anybody in Jan and nothing has changed re the team, or Rafa and Ashley. Let it go.

      (Quote)

  49. Has the dust settled yet, is it safe to come on here?

Well I wasn’t the least bit surprised at that window, it was a carbon copy of so many previous ones. All the eggs in one basket, right to the wire with god knows what manner of brinkmanship going on.
Now to be honest I’m not really fussed about townsend , the lad jumped ship in the summer and if we are honest we have got by without him so far. Another winger or creative mid would of been nice though as we are really buggered if we loose Shelvey or Ritchie and Gayle to injury. Our squad is big but low on quality once you get passed the first 11. My biggest concern from yesterday is not Townsend but the fact that Rafa clearly thought we would add some faces and quality. He was sure it would happen right up to his presser at lunchtime. If anyone seriously thinks he won’t be pissed off about it they are imo deluded. The other day I read a tweet from one of the press , Can’t recall who now but it said Rafa was told not to follow up on any player enquiries he’d made. That was about 4 or 5 days before deadline and whether we believe the press or not, there’s no smoke without fire. He will ofcourse be professional and concentrate on the job at hand but underneath I reckon he’ll be seething given his contemporaries all got well backed by their owners.
Now we did well in the summer window, so I will reserve judgement until the next window as to whether or not Rafa is being backed and Jabba wants to show ambition. Somehow I have a feeling that Rafa could be away though, I think he may well be feeling very let down about now. I hope we stay injury free and our no buy policy pays off and we don’t need the playoffs or worse and a win tonight will help ease some tension.
