Should We Laugh Or Cry After These Comments From Richard Keys About Promotion and Rafa Benitez?

As reported by the Chronicle, Richard Keys has shared his views about the race for promotion from the Championship, on his website.

Keys clearly doesn’t much fancy Newcastle for promotion, despite them being top of the league, saying:  “I wouldn’t rule out Leeds getting up automatically.

“If they do it’s Newcastle that could miss out – and Benitez knows it.

“I fancy Brighton to win the Championship and I’d be delighted for the Bloom brothers if they do.

“So the lesson here is: ‘Let football men do what they do best’.

“Businessmen should stick to what they know.

“Would Mike Ashley let Rafa walk into Sports Direct and run it? Of course not.

“History tells us every time Ashley, or more recently Charnley, get busy at Newcastle things go wrong.

“I hope Benitez keeps them on course, but I fear he’s trying to tell us he’s not sure he can.”

“You know, I’m fairly certain I can hear the sound of waking giants all the way from Leeds and Newcastle, here in Qatar,” Keys continues.

“Wonderful isn’t it? Two of our most famous clubs, two ‘proper’ football clubs as Graeme Souness might say, at last – stirring.

Keys then went on to share his views on Rafa Benitez, which unsurprisingly were negative, adding: “Regulars know that Rafa the Gafa isn’t my favourite.

“I’ve said many times that I believe he only manages for himself – for his own CV.

“Proof had to be the time he took on the Chelsea job (as revealed by yours truly and denied even by his closest confidantes!) after everything he’d previously said about the club and its fans.

“He’d take over at (Manchester) United if the price was right.”

These seem like very strange comments about a team and a manager who are currently top of their division.

  1. The clampet who said women don’t belong in football then got sacked from the cushiest job in football. A non football man who knows nothing about football talking down to probably one of the best managers in the world at arguably one of the most well supported yet mismanaged football clubs in England. JOG ON KEYS you loser

  2. Whatever anyone thinks of him, he does seem to have some pretty good contacts and is quite often on the ball with his stories. He’s not a Rafa fan but I think he’s spot on here.
