Breaking: Mitrovic will NOT be sold this summer

News has just broken from the Chronicle that Aleksander Mitrovic will not be sold by Newcastle United in the summer.

The enigmatic striker, who has struggled for form and, for want of a better word, gaining Rafa’s trust on the pitch, looked to be heading out of St James’ Park through the exit door this summer as the Toon look close to returning to the Premier League at the first attempt.

However according to internal club meetings conducted recently, it has emerged that the Serbian does have a future at the club.

Considering the 22-year-old has been second in the pecking order this season behind Dwight Gayle (and has even dropped behind summer signing Daryl Murphy recently), this news has come as somewhat of a shock. However, fans will be buoyed to know that finding another striker to bolster the club’s fire power will still be on Rafa’s remit during the summer transfer window.

And whilst Mitro does look likely to stay, it’s fair to say Club chairman Mike Ashley kept his purse strings wound pretty tight in January of this year. Let’s hope a secured promotion will bring with it, a healthy-looking transfer kitty to spend.
