Aleksandar Mitrovic scores stunning strike for Serbia

Aleksandar Mitrovic may be struggling to nail down a place in the Newcastle United side, but the 22 year-old striker is having no problems finding the net for his country, scoring again last night for Serbia – an impressive finish too! (See bottom of article for the goal)

The Serbian number 9 is fast becoming a national hero, scoring 4 goals in his last 3 starts in World Cup qualifiers. That being said, Mitrovic has struggled in front of goal for Newcastle this season.

His stats this term make for an interesting read. In his 12 starts for The Magpies across all competitions, he has an impressive 6 goals and 3 assists, yet he has failed to register a single goal in his 11 substitute appearances.

This suggests, as expected, that the Serbian may thrive with a run in the Newcastle United team, and his emphatic finish last night will only help his chances of a Rafa recall and offer a much needed confidence boost.

His chances of a return to the side have also been increased by a recent calf injury sustained by Daryl Murphy (who is a doubt for the Wigan game), as well as top goalscorer Dwight Gayle looking out of sorts since returning from a hamstring injury .

Given The Chronicle reported recently that Newcastle WILL NOT be selling Aleksandar Mitrovic at any time in the foreseeable future, it’s great to see the big Serb find some form.
