NUFC star nominated for the EFL’s Championship Player of the Year award

Newcastle United number 9, Dwight Gayle, has been named in a three-man shortlist for the EFL’s Championship Player of the Year award.

The shortlist contains NUFC striker, Gayle, alongside Leeds striker, Chris Wood and Brighton’s Anthony Knockaert.

Gayle, signed from Crystal Palace for £10m in the summer, has an outstanding 21 goals in 28 league games this season, proving to be an inspired signing by Rafa Benitez.

Chris Wood’s form can’t be ignored, with the Leeds striker currently the Championship’s top goalscorer, with an impressive 24 goals in 36 appearances this season for Gary Monk’s side.

Last but not least, Anthony Knockaert. The Brighton winger was a target of Newcastle’s last summer and you can see why. With 13 goals and 7 assists, the Frenchman has been an integral part of Brighton’s promotion push.

It is worth noting that despite Dwight Gayle currently having fewer goals to his name than Chris Wood, his games to goals ratio is superior, having played 8 games less than the Leeds striker this season.

It must be said, however, that all three players are worthy nominees, each playing a monumental role in their club’s successes this season.

The award is set to be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Sunday, April 9.

Good luck Dwight!
