Injury update: big boost for Benitez as FOUR players look set to be fit for Wigan

Rafa Benitez has received an injury boost today, with FOUR United players looking set to win their fitness battles in time for Saturday’s visit of Wigan Athletic.

Over the past few hours, The Chronicle have reported that Daryl Murphy, Isaac Hayden, Grant Hanley and Paul Dummett all trained today and look set to be fit for Saturday’s game at St. James’ Park, also providing a positive update on the injured Ciaran Clark.

It was reported earlier in the week that Daryl Murphy (calf) looked set to miss Newcastle’s next two games, with Grant Hanley (ankle) also a doubt for Wigan, seeing today’s news come as a unexpected boost for Rafa Benitez.

Long term absentee, Isaac Hayden, also trained today and appears to be progressing well, giving himself every chance of a return to the side on Saturday.

Paul Dummett is also said to be recovering well from a heel problem, which has seen the left-back play through the pain barrier over recent weeks.

Finally, The Chronicle also state that Ciaran Clark is “recovering well” from a knee injury, however the Wigan game may come too soon for the centre-back, making Grant Hanley’s availability all the more important.

Given the importance of Saturday’s game, it’s great to see a host of experienced NUFC players available for selection.
