NUFC’s top young talent reportedly offered to Turkish giants

Highly rated Newcastle United youngster Dan Barlaser has been offered, by his management company, to Turkish giants Besiktas according to reports in Turkey yesterday.

The 20 year-old midfielder is a product of the NUFC academy and is thought of as one of the club’s top young talents.

After progressing well in the U-23’s in recent years, the youngster looked set for a loan move away in January in order to gain more first team football at senior level. Soon after, an injury crisis hit the club, with several central midfielders sidelined for the Magpies, meaning any potential move for Barlaser was blocked. This then saw Rafa Benitez hand Barlaser his senior debut in Newcastle’s FA Cup ties against Birmingham and Oxford.

Whilst the midfielder is yet to appear in the senior squad since his outings in the FA cup, his recent call-up to the first team squad was not typical of a player set for an early exit from the club.

Such reports from Turkey linking him with a move to Besiktas are yet to be confirmed, however, with the youngster having a Turkish background (despite being born in Gateshead), it is difficult to know whether these reports carry any truth or provide us with nothing but lazy journalism.
