Astonishing stats show the importance of Ciaran Clark to Newcastle United this season

Our promotion back to the Premier League has been a collective effort this season, but there is one player who’s efforts can not go unnoticed and that’s Ciaran Clark’s.

The centre-back, signed from Aston Villa last summer, has been immense for us this season, not only providing a solid base for us to build on, but an air of composure and calmness at the back.

His influence on the team was highlighted on Sky Sports last week, following Friday’s 2-0 victory away to Cardiff:

Quite incredibly, our win percentage is halved when he has been out of the side, with a 70% win rate with him and just a 36% win rate without him.

I had my doubts when we signed him last summer but he has been immense.

The key contributor to our record breaking 14 away wins, 22 league clean sheets and promotion back to the Premier League – Clark deserves to be in contention for this years player of the season.

  1. i was also in doubt about Clark, but Rafa saw something in him and has brought it out with good coaching,he was right down in the dumbs at Villa a few bad games and the villa fans got on his back which does not help any player, toon fans should take note!!
