BREAKING: Rafa Benitez confirms he’s STAYING as manager of Newcastle United

It has been confirmed tonight that Rafa Benitez will STAY on as manager of Newcastle United following a ‘very positive’ and ‘constructive’ meeting with Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley.

After being left frustrated by the lack of transfer activity in the January window, Benitez had refused to commit his long term future to the club until he met with Mike Ashley to discuss their plans moving forward.

Following talks with the Newcastle board yesterday, it has been announced tonight that Benitez will be staying on as manager of Newcastle United, with it being agreed by ‘all parties’ that the meeting was ‘very positive’ and ‘constructive’.

Benitez said the following in an interview with the club website:

“I’m pleased with how the meeting went and the positive approach we are all taking together to build on what we have started this season.”

“There will be challenges ahead of course, the summer will not be easy, but the hard work has been going on for some time and we can now continue positively with the development of the squad ahead of the start of the new season.’

“I wish fans an enjoyable summer!”

Speaking after the meeting, Mike Ashley has also spoke out, releasing the following statement:

“I’ve confirmed to Rafa and Lee that they can have every last penny that the club generates through promotion, player sales and other means in order to build for next season.”

This news comes as a monumental boost to the club and all the fans, who’ve been waiting nervously to learn the Spaniard’s fate following recent talks.

As the last year has proven, Rafael Benitez is key to the future of our beloved club and to have his future settle is both a huge relief and massive boost as we head into an important summer for the club.
