News from Italy today that Newcastle are interested in signing Udinese number one goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis this summer.
This comes from Italian site ‘Tuttoudinese.it.’, and claims the Serie A side are prepared to allow the 31 year-old Greek international to leave at the end of the season for £8.5m – with Watford and Crystal Palace also interested.
Rafa Benitez has a wealth of goalkeeping options at his disposal this summer, with Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow, Tim Krul, Matz Sels and Freddie Woodman all set to report back to Tyneside for pre-season in the coming weeks.
As unnecessary as it sounds, I wouldn’t rule out the signing of ANOTHER keeper this summer. Last summer we were surprised to see Rafa sign Matz Sels – clearly highlighting that he wanted a first team goalkeeper added to his ranks.
Sels hasn’t worked out and he looks likely to leave this summer. With that in mind, will Rafa dip back into the market for another goalkeeper?
I’m not buying this transfer link, but it’ll be interesting to see how Rafa approaches the goalkeeping situation this summer.
