Could this former NUFC defender make a surprise return to Tyneside this summer?

After leaving the club in 2015, Italian reports continue to link Inter Milan full back Davide Santon with a return to Newcastle United this summer.

The report claims cash strapped Inter Milan are looking to raise funds this summer, with the ex-NUFC defender set to be one of many players shown the door at the San Siro over the coming months.

Santon, once described as the next Paolo Maldini, endured a mixed spell on Tyneside, with the right footed full back playing the vast majority of his 94 appearances  for the club at left-back.

He was assured in possession and showed glimpses of his potential, but failed to fully convince during his 3 and a half years in the North-East.

Santon has one year left on his current deal at Inter Milan and could be available at discounted price this summer, but whether the 26-year-old Italian is a genuine target for Rafa Benitez remains to be seen.
