NUFC in ‘pole position’ to sign Burnley star this summer

Newcastle United are in pole position to sign Burnley striker Andre Gray this summer reports Graeme Bailey from the Gambling Times.

He reports that Newcastle are ‘confident’ of securing a deal for Gray this summer, with the player himself understood to be keen on a move to Tyneside.

Gray scored 9 goals last season for Burnley, having impressed NUFC scouts in his debut season in the Premier League.

He has just 12-months left on his current contract at Turf Moor, having rebuffed a new deal to keep him at the club. With this in mind, the report claims Newcastle are hoping to a deal for a fee in the region of £10m, knowing Burnley will be reluctant to lose him on a free next summer.

It is believed that Gray is open to offers, with Everton, Southampton, West Ham, West Brom and Watford all showing interest, but the idea of playing under Rafa Benitez at St. James’ Park is one that ‘appeals massively’ to Gray according to today’s story.

Whenever i’ve seen him for Burnley he’s looked to have a turn of pace, good movement and seems to know where the back of the net is. He’s not a ‘proven’ Premier League scorer by any means, but at 25, he has the potential to become a very useful Premier League player.

With his contract situation suggesting he’d be available at a cut-price fee, this could turn out to be a shrewd signing for us this summer.
