Benitez handed boost in his bid to bring Andros Townsend back to NUFC this summer

Rafa Benitez is STILL interested in signing Andros Townsend this summer according to the Chronicle, and our hopes of signing the Crystal Palace winger appear to have been handed a boost.

Newcastle almost brought Townsend back to Tyneside in January, however Palace manager Sam Allardyce was unwilling to do a deal and has since given the winger a prominent role in the Crystal Palace team.

News broke last night, however, that Sam Allardyce has resigned, leaving the Palace players in shock and a certain Andros Townsend unsure of his future at the club once again.

Townsend was understood to be ‘open’ to a move back to St. James’ Park in January and whilst he may have flourished at Palace ever since that move didn’t materialise, he will be unsure as to whether he will feature in new Crystal Palace managers plans.

We are in dire need of a proven Premier League winger for next season and Benitez is clearly a big fan of the 25 year-old, so this one could be one to watch yet again this summer.
