It has been confirmed in the last few moments that Newcastle have officially signed Christian Atsu from Chelsea on a four-year deal.
It was announced earlier this month that Rafa Benitez had given the green light for Atsu to be signed, with a £6.2m deal being agreed between Newcastle and Chelsea for his loan move to be made permanent.
Benitez had the following to say after NUFC confirmed the signing of Atsu today:
“We are happy to sign a good player.”
“He’s shown us that he’s a good professional and someone who is very keen to learn and improve.”
“Christian has been a key part of our promotion campaign and he wants to help us to build something for the future.”
Atsu scored 5 goals and assisted 3 in his 32 appearances on loan last season and had often spoken out about his desire to stay with the club.
He split opinion across many with a mixed bag of performances during his loan spell, but I believe that for a reported fee in the region of £6m, he represents a very decent addition to the squad – especially with Yoan Gouffran set to leave this summer.
1 down, many more to come!
