Newcastle United have been credited with interest in Sporting Lisbon pair William Carvalho and Ruben Semedo according to Portuguese reports.
The first one comes under the bracket of ‘silly season’, with O Jogo claiming the Magpies have joined the race to sign the highly rated William Carvalho. Not only has the Portuguese midfielder appear destined for one of Europes top sides, he’s said to have a whopping £39m release clause. A great player, who impressed me at Euro 2016, but someone way out of our reach this summer.
Record (Portuguese newspaper) claim Newcastle are also interested in Carvalho’s teamate, Ruben Semedo. The rangy centre-back is believed to have a similarly high release clause (£38m), but a spell of poor performances have prompted a potential move away this summer, with the latest from Portugal suggesting Sporting Lisbon could accept £13m for the Portuguese defender.

Carvalho is, unfortunately, a non starter, but the Semedo link could be one to watch. He is believed to have attracted interested from several Premier League clubs, but at a cut-price fee, the 6ft 3, 23 year-old could represent the sort of shrewd buy Rafa Benitez will scour Europe for this season.
