NUFC offered the chance to sign Italian International defender

Rafa Benitez has been offered the chance to sign ex-Hull City loanee Andrea Ranocchia according to the Chronicle.

The Italian centre-back joined Marco Silva’s Hull City on loan in January and despite helping shore up the Tigers leaky defence, he was unable to keep them in the Premier League.

He has since returned to Inter Milan and will be available as a free agent this summer, with the Chronicle reporting that he has already been offered to Newcastle.

The 29 year old Italian international was signed by Rafa Benitez while at Inter Milan in 2010, and it is believed that the Magpies manager attempted to sign him during his spell at Napoli.

The rugged Ranocchia stands 6ft 3 and had previously been criticised during his spell in Italy, but he did impress during his short stay in the Premier League with Hull.

Benitez is clearly an admirer and given he’s looking for centre-backs this summer, the prospect of Ranocchia on a free may appeal to Rafa. One to watch perhaps.
