Benitez ‘keen’ to do £15m deal for Arsenal defender claim NUFC’s official media partner

Rafa Benitez wants to bring Arsenal’s Kieran Gibbs to Tyneside this summer according to Newcastle’s official media partner, the Mirror.

The report claims that Spaniard sees the left-back as a player who’d bring valuable experience to his side next season ahead of our return to the Premier League.

The presence of Nacho Monreal has seen Gibbs make just 10 appearances in the league last season for Arsenal, leaving him considering his options this summer. The Mirror state that Benitez is ‘keen to do a deal’ for the 27-year-old who is believed to be valued at £15m by the Gunners.

Current NUFC left-back Paul Dummett has been a constant and reliable fixture in the side during last season’s title winning promotion campaign, however there is a belief amongst most of the toon army that he is not cut out for top flight football.

A fee of £15m may be slightly excessive, but there’s little doubt that the signing of Gibbs would be a notable upgrade.

The Mirror also outline that Benitez is anxious to ramp up Newcastle’s transfer activity and will look to secure the loan signing of Tammy Abraham, as well as push through deals for Andre Gray, Ruben Semedo and Hull winger Kamil Grosicki.
