Following the tragic death of former Newcastle United fan player Cheick Tiote earlier this week, a petition has been created by an NUFC fan asking the club to retire the number 24 shirt in his honour.

If this is something you would like to sign, CLICK HERE to be directed to the petition.

The news arrived on Monday and left the world of football in shock, as it was announced Tiote had tragically passed away at the age of 30, following a heart attack whilst training for his new club in China.

The news has not only left the whole of Newcastle United in mourning, but the entire footballing world, with tributes coming in from around the globe from all who knew him.

Cheick was a fierce competitor, had the heart of a lion on the pitch and was an avid trainer off it.

He died doing the thing he loved and will live long in the memory of us all here at Newcastle United.

RIP Cheick

  1. Don’t think the number should be retired, tbh. Tiotes’s death was tragic,he was a great player who will be remembered and tributes should be paid, but do we retire a number every time an ex-player dies? What are the criteria to be a ‘club legend’?

  2. Undeniably a great player for us when in his pomp, but surely there are better ways to pay respects to the big man?
