Agent reveals Newcastle have made an offer to sign Premier League goalkeeper

The agent of Willy Caballero has today confirmed to GOAL that Newcastle United have made an approach to sign the Argentine goalkeeper.

It has been widely reported in recent days that Cabellero would join Chelsea on a free transfer when his contract expires with Manchester City this summer, however Newcastle’s last ditch move appears to have disrupted that, with Rafa Benitez said to be ‘pulling out all the stops’ to sign the 35-year-old.

Speaking to GOAL, Caballero’s agent Adrian Faija said the following:

“We have some offers from England, he wants to stay in England,”

“Newcastle is cold but pretty.”

Rafa Benitez seems intent on bringing in a new number one to Newcastle this summer, with suggestions that Karl Darlow and Tim Krul could following Matz Sels out the exit door this summer in a goalkeeping shake-up at St. James’ Park.

Caballero may be 35, but made 26 appearances Etihad last season and ended the season as Pep Guardiola’s number one.

Whilst it may seem difficult to compete with Chelsea, the presence of Thibaut Courtois means Caballero would almost certainly be warming the bench at Stamford Bridge, making a move to be Rafa Benitez’s number one potentially seem all the more appealing.
