Remarkable story reveals why Chelsea urged Swansea-bound Tammy Abraham not join NUFC?

The Mirror, Newcastle’s official media partner, revealed over the weekend that Chelsea urged Swansea-bound Tammy Abraham to snub a move to the North-East as they were ‘concerned’ about Newcastle’s famous nightlife.

In this quite remarkable story, The Mirror claim that Chelsea felt there were too many ‘off-field distractions’ for a ‘highly-paid teenage footballer’, believing that a city famed for its nights out would provide ‘too much of a goldfish bowl’ for the 19-year-old.

Abraham’s decision to join Swansea on loan was announced on last week, confirming he had turned opted against the opportunity to lead the line for Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United in front of 52,000 a week.

The Chronicle claimed Newcastle were not prepared to offer Abraham the first-team assurances that Swansea were not prepared to, suggesting that to be a big factor in him opting for Paul Clement’s side, however, if it is true that Chelsea were so concerned that he’d go out on the lash then maybe it’s a good job we missed out on him!
