TWO interesting nuggets of transfer news revealed by NUFC editor Mark Douglas

During an ‘Everything is Black and White’ podcast for the Chronicle yesterday, NUFC editor Mark Douglas revealed two interesting and insightful nuggets of transfer news regarding Manchester City’s Joe Hart and Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi.

Starting with Joe Hart, Benitez is clearly in the market for a goalkeeper this summer, and Mark made some surprising comments about the England number one when discussing transfer targets, suggesting Hart would in fact be open to a move to Tyneside:

“Newcastle want a goalkeeper and Joe Hart is there at Manchester City – he would jump at the chance to come to Newcastle United”

“They (Manchester City) have been pushing Hart to about 4 or 5 different Premier League clubs and he’s been offered to Newcastle United – there’s absolutely no doubt that”

“But he’s on humungous wages and it’s whether Newcastle would be prepared to fund all of those wages”.

Pepe Reina and Willy Caballero appear to be Rafa’s top 2 goalkeeping targets this summer, but both deals look increasingly unlikely. With Joe Hart appearing desperate to stay in England, his experience, quality and character would be a welcome addition to the squad if Newcastle would be willing to manufacture an albeit costly deal to bring him to the club.

Mark then talked strikers and, after confirming Newcastle’s long standing interest in Burnley’s Andrey Gray, said the following about a potential loan deal for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi:

“They (Newcastle) have been looking at him (Batshuayi) for a long time”

“Keep and eye on him – I think there’s something potentially there”

“Rafa Benitez has got a good relationship with Michael Emenalo (Technical Director) at Chelsea so I think they’ll get someone from Chelsea this summer on loan”

Batshuayi would be an ambitious target, even on loan, but he certainly represents the sort of exciting addition we are crying out for this summer.

It’s also interesting that Mark expects Newcastle to bring someone in on loan from Chelsea, whether that be Batshuayi or not. The likes of Kurt Zouma, Nathan Ake, Ruben Loftus Cheek and Loic Remy all look likely to be available on loan – ones to watch perhaps?

  1. Well i wish i could say i didn’t read all this garbage but being a die hard fan i cant help myself.
    Hope springs eternal.
My personal thoughts? Fat Ashley is at it again.
Handful of mediocre signings, and see what needs tweaking in January Windows.
By then Rafa will be gone and Newcastle will be staring at the trap door again.
Sorry folks I’m hopeful but cynical.
