Newcastle join West Ham in the race to sign £10m-rated Premier League striker – reports

Newcastle appear to have Burnley striker Andre Gray on their summer-shortlist and have joined West Ham in the race to sign the £10m-rated Burnley striker according to local and national reports from the Shields Gazette and Express today.

Gray is a player whose name has been previously linked with United this summer, but it sounds like we could be ready to make our move after he’s seen contract talks stall with Burnley.

The 26-year-old striker, who scored 9 Premier League goals for Burnley last season, has entered the last 12 months of his contract with Burnley – hence their attempts to see him sign a new deal at the club.

A handful of Premier League clubs, including Everton and Spurs, are said to be ‘waiting on developments’, with Gray now looking almost certain to leave Turf Moor this summer.

Whilst Gray’s 9-goal tally wasn’t hugely prolific last season, his pace and energy combined with his eye for goal make him a player who would suit Benitez’s system and someone who could prove to be real coup for the club if we can fend off the inevitable competition for his signature this summer.
