Reading are interested in signing Newcastle United stopper Karl Darlow and look set to make a £5m offer for the 26-year-old according to Daily Mirror.
After showing interest in Pepe Reina and Joe Hart, it is clear Rafa Benitez is on the lookout for a new no.1 this summer, with The Mirror stating that the Spaniard believes a ‘top class’ keeper is ‘crucial’ this season.
It is then claimed that Karl Darlow could be on his way, with a £5m offer from last season’s play-off finalists likely to tempt Benitez into doing business if he can secure a new goalkeeper in the coming weeks.
Darlow spent the majority of last season as Rafa’s number one, so a potential exit may come as a surprise, however it has been suggested that Benitez sees Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman as options behind any no.1 signed by the club this summer, meaning Darlow’s days at Newcastle look to be numbered.
While it may end up making sense to let Darlow go, I would suggest that Newcastle demand a fee in excess of £5m, which in this day and age is peanuts for a promising 26-year-old English goalkeeper.
