Rafa Benitez is hopeful of finalising an £8.5m deal to sign highly-rated Norwich City winger Jacob Murphy according to an exclusive from Newcastle’s official media partner (The Mirror) last night.
The Chronicle recently confirmed our interest in the 22-year-old and The Mirror believe we have now jumped ahead of Southampton & Crystal Palace in the race for his signature.
Murphy impressed for England U-21’s in the European Championships last month and is understood to favour a move to Tyneside, not only being a boy-hood Newcastle fan, but also attracted by the prospect of playing under Rafa Benitez.
Having bagged 13 goals and 6 assists for Norwich last season, including goals at Carrow road and St. James’ Park when the two sides met in the Championship, it’s easy to see why the youngster has impressed Rafa.
Following links to Adama Traore, Jesus Navas and Jefferson Montero, it was suggested over the weekend that we are in the market for TWO wingers this summer, and it’s looking increasingly likely that Murphy could be one of those.
