Everton in advanced talks to sign highly-rated NUFC youngster

Everton are closing in on the signing of highly-rated NUFC youngster Lewis Gibson, with the Daily Mail claiming the 16-year-old is in advanced talks with Ronald Koeman’s side.

Gibson is an England U-17 international and has enjoyed an impressive start to life on Tyneside.

He has shone in the U-18’s and has recently become a regular in Peter Beardsley’s U-23 side – an impressive feat for a 16 year old. The Stanley born defender was also one of the stars in NUFC’s run to the FA Youth Cup quarter finals this season. His exit would be a blow given he’s considered to be one of the top youngsters in the country.

Newcastle will be desperate to keep a hold of Gisbon, but until the club secure the youngster on a long-term professional contract, high flying Everton could pose a real threat.

Everton are going places and Ronald Koeman is hoping for an injection of fresh talent to his Everton ranks this summer, with Director of football Steve Walsh heading a intensive recruitment drive of youth talent – and Gibson is clearly high up on his wish list.

Lee Ryder has revealed that no deal has been struck as of yet, but given Everton’s ambition in the market this summer and track record of developing young talents, it could be a move that appeals to the promising 16-year-old.

  1. Gibson has been advised to not return by his agent, effectively the kid is on strike. Poor state of affairs.
