Following the imminent arrival of Jacob Murphy and Javier Manquillo, Newcastle are expected to turn their attention to strikers, with The Chronicle confirming our interest in Bordeaux’s Diego Rolan.
The 24-year old forward is a player we’ve seen linked with Newcastle in the past and we appear to have reignited our interest in the Uruguayan International.
Fulham had a £5m bid accepted for Rolan over the weekend, however The Chronicle claim the striker is keen on a move to Newcastle – as we appear to have scuppered his proposed move to Craven Cottage at the 11th hour.
Rolan scored 10 goals in 19 starts in Ligue 1 last season and is able to operate out wide or as a central striker. With 37 goals in his last three seasons at Bordeaux, Rolan’s goalscoring form has been steady if not unspectacular, however I would fully expect him to be signed as an attacking option and not the ‘main man’ expected to deliver 15 plus goals in the Premier League next season.
Newcastle are understood to be in the market for TWO strikers this summer. Rolan has not long turned 24, is versatile and highly-rated in France, so whilst his potential arriving may underwhelm a few, he may be considered as a shrewd investment given his surprisingly low £5m price tag.
Newcastle’s calibre of transfer targets will hopefully ramp up a notch, but it is a relief to see us finally get some deals ‘over the line’ and this one looks like one to watch.
