Newcastle United have confirmed the exit of Daryl Murphy, who tonight has completed his £2m move to Nottingham Forest where the 34-year old has signed an extraordinary 3-year contract with the Championship club.
The Irishman was signed by Rafa Benitez less than 12 months ago, arriving for £3m from Ipswich. Since then the experienced striker has more than played his part in our promotion back to the Premier League, netting 6 times in 18 appearances.
Murphy was a model professional, worked hard and often delivered when given his chance in the team, scoring vital goals in wins away to Brentford and Huddersfield last season.
The move to Nottingham Forest makes sense for all parties. As a 34-year old, he did not have a future with the club in the top flight, but will no doubt do a sterling job at Forest – who’ve offered him a sensational 3-year deal, which must be hard to turn down given he’s in the twilight of his career.

Daryl Murphy had been open to staying at #nufc but chance of a 2yr deal at 34 is a great opportunity and he will get goals in Championship.
